Welcome
“Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord.”
Paul, a follower of Jesus who wrote some of the letters in the New Testament part of the Bible
BENT DOUBLE
She walked the road
bowed as the wood she carried.
I saw her from afar.
And as we sped past I looked back
and saw her small hunched figure trudging still.
But until now, it had meant nothing to me –
just a phrase – two words.
But for that women it was the reality of her life,
her world, her daily task.
On reflection I think of Christ
and the wood he carried,
bent double for her too.
In such a way his road was long
as bent double he carried her pain.
His struggle then is hers now,
but suddenly the road is shafted
with an intensity of light that
as I look back
it is as if he carries
the very wood she labours under.
Written whilst in Ethiopia and read by the author, Dave Cooper,
at a service during which we looked at the needs of others.
